Sustainability Roadmap

OUR MISSION

We want to accelerate change across the jewellery industry by delivering agenda-setting goals aligned to the following UN's Sustainable Development goals.

View our Roadmap

Product Traceability

We've introduced Product Passport: an industry-leading supply chain transparency initiative.

Partnering with Ennovie, the world's first net-zero jewellery manufacturer, to implement blockchain traceability on 50 of our bestselling styles, Product Passport allows our customers to trace the origin of their jewellery from conception to completion with more styles being added soon.

Recyclable Packaging & Carbon Neutral Deliveries

We've rolled out new boxes, bags and stickers, which are 100% recyclable and use only FSC paper, saving 1.8 million A4 sheets of paper per year and reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 83%.

Our carbon policy is to avoid and reduce it wherever possible. Where we can't yet do that, we are carbon-neutral through offsetting but we know this is not the solution. To reduce our carbon emissions we're:

  • Switching to green energy in all stores and offices within our control.
  • Consciously avoiding gas as our source of heating.
  • Choosing to partner with manufacturers who are aligned with our vision and invested in reducing their environmental impact.

Recycled Materials

We only use 100% recycled gold and sterling silver. As a result, we're reducing our emissions by 2/3. This means we've saved 2,689 tonnes this year by exclusively using recycled silver and gold (enough to drive around the world 2,600 times - 61.8m miles!)

Circular Economy

Our jewellery recycling programme accepts all pieces, regardless of brand and we've recycled over 2,500 pieces since launch. Our 5 year replacement warranty and lifetime repair service means you can purchase less and wear longer. Plus, our discontinued designs are sold through at fair prices and don't go into landfill as part of our zero-landfill policy!

Monica's Meadow A Biodiversity Project in the British Countryside

In April 2022 we launched a new biodiversity project with leading environmentalist Jake Fiennes to preserve the British Countryside in Norfolk, UK, home of Monica Vinader's global head office.

Monica's Meadow is a five-year project employing science-based, traceable metrics that will have positive benefits, including improving air and water and soil quality, sequestering carbon and improving the biodiversity of the land.

So far, we've:

  • Completed the initial land assessments (including soil and air quality, biodiversity levels and species)
  • Created a pond to further increase biodiversity
  • Planted a bespoke seed mix

For Our Community

Women for Women International

On International Women's Day, all profits from our Togetherness Necklace were donated to Women for Women International, supporting women facing inequality around the world.

Outright International

On Pride Day, £10 from every engraved order, including our new Love is Love motif, were donated to OutRight International, which partners with the UN to fight for the rights of LGBTQ+ members globally.

Choose Love

In May, a corporate contribution and profits from our Peaceful Dove pendant charm were donated to the Choose Love humanitarian charity, which provides humanitarian aid to, and advocates for, global refugees.

Choose Earth

Proceeds from our bestselling collaboration with Mother of Pearl were donated to Choose Earth. This collection helped fund resources for indigenous communities across Brazil fighting for environmental, human rights and social justice.

Our Partners

Code of Conduct

All of our supply partners have signed our annually reviewed Code of Conduct agreement, which sets out their commitment to transparent sourcing, packaging, energy use, Health & Safety and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The code also includes a commitment to use sustainable raw materials and packaging.

We usually have a team member based abroad, regularly visiting each of our suppliers. We also engage third party audits, carried out by an accredited independent auditing body.

Responsible Manufacturing

Our jewellery is thoughtfully handcrafted before it makes its way to you. That is the quality standard behind every Monica Vinader piece and a promise we can make because our suppliers are family.

Our Workshops

In fact, all our workshops go through regular Intertek Workplace Conditions Assessments audits to ensure fair wages and hours, employee rights, health and safety, and responsible corporate governance.

Ethical Sourcing

Further, we ensure 100% of our diamonds are responsibly sourced by adhering to the Kimberley Process and the World Diamond Council System of Warranties.

From Mine to Market

Our aim is to map our complete supply chain for each gemstone that we work with. Understanding where our raw materials come from is an integral part of improving how the industry operates. We've partnered with an independent industry expert in compliance and sustainable practice to validate our sources. We aimed for 10% traceability in 2022, with 100% traceability by 2030. Our teams' amazing efforts mean we've already traced 21% of our gemstones.

Holding ourselves Accountable

To hold ourselves accountable and make sure we are delivering on our promise,
we've partnered with others who share this goal, both inside and outside of our industry.

Positive Luxury has recognised Monica Vinader as a business that meets the highest
sustainability standards and leaves a positive impact on the world.
The Butterfly Mark accredits our ongoing dedication to doing better.

UN Global Compact

Since 2020, Monica Vinader has been committed to the UN Global Compact corporate
responsibility initiative and its principles in the areas of human rights, labour,
the environment and anti-corruption.
